Originally constructed in 1878, the Creek Council House served to house the government of the Creek people. It remained the heart of the Creek Nation’s government until Oklahoma became a state in 1907. At that time, the city of Okmulgee took ownership. Repurposed as a museum, the Creek Council House now collects, preserves and interprets the culture of the Creek Nation with a variety of exhibits filled with historical significance.
